Behavioural Consultation & Education

Behavioural Consultation & Education services provided by Dr. Terri Sands, Newmarket Psychologist.

Several common behaviours may arise from dementia when the brain is no longer functioning normally, due to Alzheimer’s, Stroke, chronic alcohol abuse, or other causes. I help families, caregivers, and treatment teams develop plans to address common behaviours such as:

  • Resisting bathing
  • Sexually inappropriate behaviour
  • Refusal to eat or take medication
  • Aggression
  • Paranoia
  • Disturbed Sleep
  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Repetitive behaviours

In my work with elderly cognitively impaired veterans and civilians, I have acquired the expertise to assist families, professional caregivers, and treatment teams to properly understand these behaviours, identify triggers and other maintaining reasons for the behaviour, so that a workable, consistent, multidimensional behavioural plan can be implemented.
